I was commissioned to design and build a cabinet to fit an alcove beside a chimney breast. The primary function is to hold audio-visual equipment and recorded media, combined with providing a foldaway work surface to rest a laptop computer on. The secondary function is to create a flexible storage space for miscellaneous items.
The central door is made from a custom-built picture frame to hold frosted glass, so concealing the electronic equipment, while allowing the remote control to operate the systems. The upper door opens upwards with a lid support stay, so that two shelves on runners can be extended, giving more convenient access to the tapes and disks.
